I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY WELL DONE TO MARBURY COUNTRY PARK FOR THE REALLY NICE PLAQUE TO THE MARBURY LADY AND THE MARBURY DUNN HOW NICE TO SEE THIS
BELOW IS THE STORY OF THE MARBURY LADY WHO HAUNTS THE PARK. 1 AMAZING ORB AT MARBURYIt was midnight when the carriage pulled up to the gates of Marbury hall. A young woman stepped out she seemed overwhelmed by the size of the huge hall. It lumed before her in the darkness. She had finally got here after following him across the world she was here at his home. She walked towards the front door and took the fox head knocker in her hand she slammed it onto the door. The old hall groaned as it came to life. The Lady of Marbury had arrived. | 2 THE MARBURY LADY ??But alas her journey had been in vain for he was not allowed to marry her. He had been promised to another she was heartbroken. She was allowed to stay at the hall and eventually became the housekeeper. She loved Marbury and vowed never to leave. She had asked that when she died her body was to be embalmed and buried at Marbury. That would come about sooner than she thought. Some said she had a lover and that she used to sneak out to a tunnel under Marbury mere to meet him. She was supposedly caught by the Master of the house. Who in a jealous rage stabbed her on the steps leading down to the tunnel. | | 3 PLACE OF THE LAST SIGHTINGLegend has it that she met an untimley death while she was still young. No one knows exactly how. Some stories say she was murdered, stabbed to death on the stone steps. Some say she died of flu or an illness brought on by the English weather. No one will ever know the truth it is lost in the mists of time. But her story and her legend go on. Still she haunts the place she loved most. When she died her body was embalmed and kept in the hall. It was placed in a coffin at the foot of the spiral staircase. But some family members did not like the thought of a body in the hall. So when they inherited they had the body put in the family vault at Budworth church. In the dead of night the servants would sneak through the lanes with the coffin on a bier. Then they would place it in the vaults at the church. | 4 IN THE DARK DARK WOODSThis made the Lady of Marbury very unhappy and she began to haunt the hall and grounds. Strange sounds would be heard in the dead of night screams rang out and in the hall funiture moved by itself. So her body would be brought back to the hall and the hauntings would stop Then when other families came to live at the hall they would have her body put back in the church vaults. Then the hauntings would start again a white misty figure would be seen floating across the rose garden. The servants would run as fast as they could.Terrified if they had to go to the walled garden for vegetables at night. Eventually the hall became a country club and it was decided to bury the lady in the grounds of the hall where she lies to this day. Buried in a lead coffin behind the swiming pool. But now and then she still likes to roam around the park she loved so much and can be seen on misty mornings. The Marbuy Lady is at last where she wanted to be. | | THE MARBURY DUNNEHERE LIES THE MARBURY DUNN THE FASTEST HORSE THAT EVER RUN CLOTHED IN A LINEN SHEET WITH SILVER SHOES UPON HER FEET. The Marbury Dunne was a horse that belonged possibly to the DE-MERBURY family. They lived at Marbury before the Barrymore's or Smith-Barrys no one knows for sure what century the horse comes from. It is supposed that the horse was from a time much earlier than the Marbury Lady It could of belonged to the Barrymore's but I have searched many of the lists and descriptions of their horses and looked at many paintings and cannot find one horse that is dunn coloured. | THE MEMORIALHow nice to see this.. congratulations to the friends marbury for putting up this plaque depicting the old hall the marbury lady and the marbury dunn. love it !!! On this glass plaque are the three most important stories of Marbury. The hall owned by the Barrymore and smith-Barry families. The Marbury lady shown in a veil. And the phantom horse The Marbury dunne. You can see this as you enter the park from the carpark. | | HUGE TREE AT MARBURYThis photograph does not show just how big this tree is. | OLDEST TREE IN MARBURY ?This is a very old tree by the stream on the ice pond side of Marbury country park. Many years ago I saw a painting of the Georgian mansion that was there before the french chatuex. In the painting there was one small tree and all the rest of the land was weeping lawns. Could this be that tree? it seems old enough and its in the same place as the one in the painting. | | ORB AT MARBURY | WHO IS THIS ?Click on this picture and have a look I can see a face ? silly but it looks like a witch sat down smiling. | | | | |
